Esoteric Update #214 - Acorn Meet Squirrel


You'll have to excuse me; I don't feel good right now, specifically at this moment when I write this. So I'll keep it short and just focus on what's been happening with the game. No lore or articles, but I'll try to get something out soon, mostly because I want to, not because I feel there's much of a demand for it.

In any case, I've recently mentioned working on a new style of event structure that can utilise Ink for easy extendability while also accomplishing everything we wanted to be able to do with events. This wasn't easy, partially due to the general shenanigans with Ink/Inky and partly because the issue itself was a poorly defined (i.e. difficult) problem.

(It involves running multiple events in parallel within a text-based environment while keeping it as user-friendly and natural as possible.)

But after a bit of milling about with it, I've managed to put together an implementation that works both for Ink and for our standard GB system, which also manages to meet all the requirements we've had for the system.

I've also put out a test of the new structure that's "playable" on the server. Now, hold up here. This is not content; this is a structure test. But I've posted a playable version on the Discord server and already gathered some insightful comments.

I just need to rest for a day or two. Next, I'll link up the structure with text so it can replace the old park content in the game.

Overall this seems to be a success.
