Esoteric Update #205 - Embracing GPT Doesn't Mean What You Think

It's update time... and this one is going to be weird.

So because this is an unusual update, let me first explain something. As you've seen in the title, this has something to do with chatGPT, or in general, with the usage of GPT algorithms within the game. But, as the title states, it's probably not what you think.

The text output of chatGPT is not good enough for us to use in the game, but we do absolutely plan to use it as a writing assistant. Basically, any longer body of text generated by the AI lacks the quality of writing we are looking for. Still, it helps with some repetitive tasks revolving around manipulating small text fragments. I've looked into AI and services that can assist with this before but found nothing capable of operating at a level where it would be useful for me and not merely a waste of time. So, yes, that means that GPT, at the current point of its development, is proving to be "good enough" to employ it.

You can see my more in-depth review of the AI here:

You can check out a bit of lore I attempted to write using the AI here:

And you can read a regular article written by me here (it is questionable if this is written by an AI or not):

And finally, the week has been somewhat busy for me. My work really pushed me hard before the holidays, and I had somewhat limited time. I spent it mostly on technical issues, the usage of GPT was one of them, yes, but I also brushed up some things in the engine and in terms of coding.

Just as a heads up, there will be no update next week. I'm not taking a break; it just happens that my parents are visiting around that time, so I'm going to make a summary update post in 2 weeks, just after New Year, probably on the 2nd of January.

Finally, have some AI art too:
