Esoteric Update #154 - Suddnly, Dream
The update is late because I had an emergency yesterday. By the time it was dealt with, I've couldn't bring myself to do much else than go to bed.
Anyway, lore:
Lore: Baal, Ba'al; a Falsified Deity?
Lore: Excerpt from Occitan Fleshscrolls
Now for the update... first off, the new writer I mentioned last week would like to introduce herself. So, this is what Nyxii has to say about her joining us to work on this project:
Hey! I go by Nyxii. I found Esoteric Erotica by happenstance browsing on itch. Within the the day I became a fan, and recently I'm invested in helping with the development, mainly writing. Hope you enjoy EE!
And because she has so far managed to challenge my game design on some things, I spent the last week on a digression. It's a pretty big thing, but it's also purely technical. I fully integrated going to sleep, dreaming and waking up with the new systems. All of these elements now use the GB format (a.k.a. the v2 systems), and as such, there's a lot they can now do. Unfortunately, the current content is just a straight-up port of the old relevant writing, but there'll be more coming in soon, and I'd like to spin that towards making the whole process more interesting and more interactive.
The new content this opens up can be any or all of the following:
- clothing is taken into account when going to sleep and waking up, quick clothing swap options for convenience;
- reflections on the day's events (implemented but still building up the content);
- various going to sleep mini-events, like not feeling tired enough or struggling through random thoughts while trying to get some rest;
- interaction in dreams as a baseline (all dreams are now, by default, enabled for interactivity, we're working on some generic interactions with dreams based on Oneiromancy as well);
- various waking up mini-events, like snoozing for just a little bit more or not wanting to get up due to low resources.
This is just the general gist of it though, the new version, as the v2 systems are designed to be, is very, very modular and expandable. So it's just a matter of developing content for it. (Speaking of which, if you do have any ideas, let me know.)
I don't really think going into the technical detail will do much, but if you want to see what might be cooking soon, you can check out my Discord. I'm trying to get an open discussion of the new features rolling there, mainly in the sense of fishing for suggestions and input on the ones already present.

Hi, trying out your game and I really like the design/writing so far. Just curious, am I stuck in progression right after moving into the new town and meeting the landlord? I can't get anything else to happen aside from meeting Mortimer and discovering 5 objects in the landlord's place.
When you open the game you get a cover letter explaining what you can do (also in Bonus menu if you missed it) apart from that there's nothing in the game an pretty much everything that is there is slated for removal/restructuring anyway.
Ahh, thank you! Love the direction you're taking with the game. The writing's really good as well, very fun to read through. Will definitely be keeping an eye on it as things progress!
