Esoteric Update #232 - Feeling Blood Drained


Alright, let's throw some lore in here:

And now the update proper... Unfortunately, there are a bunch of things I'm still in the middle of, but we're edging closer to an improved version of the intro and... well... possibly the final version of the opening, as I don't think we have any more mechanics to implement that will affect it. And I would like to say something about this at the very end...

Apart from that, a few bugs got fixed, and some things got written. I did make some adjustments to the UI in general, and you can see most of those adjustments here:


Now, the interesting (for some measure of anything I do being interesting) part of this is the Karma segment. This is a little universal interface that lets you fudge certain outcomes in your favour. How does it work? Well, that's explained here:


This is something we've been mulling over as an idea since the very beginning of the game's development, but because it wasn't plausible to implement in the earlier versions of our core interaction system, it got mothballed. I looked at things again this week and concluded that it should be plausible to implement this now and, after some fumbling with the code (I was tired...), came out the other end with a working implementation.

I do not feel like going over the more minor details of other things I worked on, but if you want to know, it's on our Discord. Mostly, I just struggled with exhaustion after going through some rough medical procedures during the first half of this week. My birthday was as miserable as I expected, but unfortunately, that's how things are.

I’m excited for the Karma system to be implemented! I remember seeing it when I opened the game and was curious how it would effect future events and stuff. I hope your future days and birthdays are a lot more fun then your birthday. Happy belated birthday to you :3👍🏽

I think it's also fair to say that Karma is overall implemented. Some minor things will likely come out and over time we'll adjust the balance of things (the numbers), but the big, important code should all be there now.
