Esoteric Update #318 - Recovering...

Alright, it's now time for a proper update, but before that, I have to mention one thing.

Between the 28th of this month and the 8th next month (probably not for the whole period, I'm just not sure how quickly they'll let me out), I'll be in the hospital. It'll be for a semi-serious procedure related to one of my legs. It's not urgent, but it's something that will make more sense if addressed sooner rather than later. I've been conflicted about whether to mention this, but ultimately, I think it's better to speak about it openly, given that I'm not sure how capable I'll be of getting anything done due to it. I'll have my laptop with me and access to the Internet, but you know how it can be when you're in the hospital and trying to work.

I've received new medication after the issues last week that has massively helped me return to a functioning state. It's a new way for me to manage pain, and it's also helping with swelling and inflammation. Overall, it's already a huge help. However, this procedure should help stabilise things long-term, at least for a while.

Regarding the update, I've been working on writing and scenario design in the background, and have also addressed some points along the way. Some of these points were necessary to complete the new character generator, while others were required to ensure parity with certain functions from the old version of the game.

So yeah, about that last one? WebView2 has been causing problems again. There was a particular piece of code that didn't crash, but ran so slowly that it had to be something wrong with it, and of course, it was synchronisation. I had been struggling with it for a few days before I managed to figure out something that would fix it. And by fixing it, I mean I completely rewrote it using a different approach that would get around the synchronisation. But now it works at least!

Apart from that, I've been working on the UI, as there were still some problems with it. These changes encompass both minor adjustments to the UI framework and a larger redesign of the settings tab. I've also changed the underlying settings model. It's a bit simpler now, but it also explains itself better. I think both help here.

I'm considering discussing some aspects of scenario design, but I think it would be better if I could demonstrate it, and there's still some work to be done before that. I'm also still struggling with bureaucracy; things are not looking good there, but I'm still gonna do my best. The worst-case scenario is that I just accept losing those benefits; I should still have enough money to get by, it'll just be considerably more risky given my shaky health and reliance on both procedures and medication to continue trucking along. Such is life, I guess.
