Esoteric Update #103 - Death By Sun


Last week was pretty horrible, actually. The heat has been working on rendering me into a puddle of sweat. That means I couldn't get any focused work done. But I didn't want to waste a week, so I tried to do small tasks that have been piling up lately.

Firstly, I organised the lore files. Currently, there's about 140 of them. 126 finished texts and a bunch of things that are unfinished yet, but relatively far along.

Secondly, I took some time to look through the erotica and add a few new entries, and with the help of Desert sort some of the ones he wrote. So between those two, lots of writing lore and erotica, organising it, etc.

Thirdly, I decided to add functionality for capturing HTML from the game, it works, but I'm still unsure of the ways I want to incorporate it into the interface. I'll likely add some functionality like automatic sex scene captures. Since I have a feeling, that's something people might like. Maybe also have a function to capture the whole game output for later review. At least as an optional thing.


Fourthly, there are a few verbs (in the game's verb list) that have variants. Like say, button and unbutton. I managed to finally get the game to recognise these are related enough to properly undergo pruning. I'm proud of the solution. IDK, maybe someone will appreciate what I did here.


Fifthly, just a little thing, I added a small file that can be called from the console, in case someone wants to see the generic NPC text colours. I'm working under the unfounded conviction that people will mod this game at some point and this is a useful little thing.


Points one and two took the most of my time over the last week. At some point, I might want to consider if people want to read the lore somewhere... I post it on Discord regularly, but I otherwise deleted the few things that were previously on the blog. I feel that was a good choice, the old lore wasn't as well written as what we're outputting right now.

Next week post is going to be a bit different. I'm going to write up a longer text for the 2nd year summary. Going more in-depth about how the game's scope looks like, what's done and what still needs work. Maybe even ask a few questions.

I liked how much detail the character creation goes into. The town is very thought out and shows allot of promise. Keep up the good work, I said in the game thread on another site i found the game on, keep polishing and the will be a shiny gem.
