Esoteric Update #159 - Covers, So Many Covers

Ok, so... lore for today:

Lore: Taste of the Ningyo
Lore: Beneath the Waves

Now for the updates. Last week we managed to get a lot done with the document assets and coding. While we're still congested on processing the images, the syntax for putting it all together is coming along nicely. To present what exactly we've done, let's go over some examples of books generated from the current repertoire of available elements.

Weathering. Various weathering effects can be applied to books to generate those musty looking ancient tomes locked away in secret places. Weathering not only comes in many forms but also allows for stacking. It affects the colour and texture of the cover and removes the inlays present in lettering and decorative embossing, enhancing the damaged look.

If you follow this blog, you've seen this cover before, but there's a slight difference here - the patterns now meet in the middle of the right edge, where they've been previously slightly apart. This is because the placement and scale of various elements can be manipulated from the syntax. Corners will still be corners, but they can now be adjusted in size. Emboss elements can be moved around more freely to allow for more elaborate stacking and customisation.

This might not have been obvious before, but the texture of the lettering, emboss inlay, and corner brace were initially all tied to each other. This is no longer the case. While there are still some restrictions, the texture can be changed near element-by-element (the exceptions only apply to corner braces, really). There is also an additional, different weathering effect used here, causing minor scratches to appear in the text inlay for that slightly used university library look.

Also, we've added a series of new shoe styles to the game, focusing on some iconic looks as well as more casual options for those times you don't want to be clacking about in high heels. I dunno why you'd want such a thing, but you do you, weeeirdo.

I'm tired. I'll go rest now. There's still a lot of work to be done on this system.
