Esoteric Update #167 - Meeting My Own Expectations

Lore for the week:

Lore: The Modern Art of Alchemy – Xenochemistry
Lore: The Ley Of The Land

Now let's move on to the update. What I've done over the last few days can be roughly divided into two portions.

Firstly, I ended up doing a bit more work on the engine. It was a few somewhat disjoint updates, fixes, and additions. One that I think is worth mentioning is that there's now a simple error catching method available in the game. It's used in the console to keep you from crashing the game while testing things. Now, I can't claim credit for the idea. It was suggested to me by someone else and represents a simple solution to a complex problem, or perhaps one I was overthinking.

Now for the game itself, I focused on getting a proof of concept event fully implemented and using it to test a few ideas along the way. This led to changes and additions in the travel systems, letting me flesh out time flow during events. The event I worked with started out at just about 10 points of data and 750 words. Now it's about 100 points of data and about 5500 words. In both cases, not counting the expanded universal narration surrounding travel events.

Well, it was a success, and I'm happy with the results. I feel, though, that if I didn't get swamped in with the engine changes, I could have maybe squeezed in another re-made event. The event reworks are extensive. As you can see from the numbers quoted above, it's a pretty hefty amount of work, but I am now finding it easier to get done than when I started working on the game.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing for next week. However, there are a few things I'm tempted to continue on with. I might work on either one or dabble a bit in a few. I'll soon be having more free time from work, and I'll try to use that time to sit down pretty hard to the game and put more content in.
