Esoteric Update #170 - No, You Can't Kill The Younglings


So I'm a bit out of it, and as such, I'm going to skip out on lore today and just give an update on what's been happening over the last week. Starting with minor things - more clothing items, more cosmetics. Write-ups are done, but the items are not in the game yet. Some minor bug fixes happened as well, but one was critical. And I'll speak about it in a moment.

I've gotten back to working on the events. Specifically, I was working on the starling event to expand it. It's not getting a rework as thorough as the previous one, but it's incorporating new features. This is specifically related to using random NPC conversations within the GB system. And it works fine... but...


It turned out that there was a critical oversight in the way I initially implemented the system, which made adding additional archetypes difficult and made the output degrade in quality with the inclusion of more specific archetypes. So I fixed this. I took the existing content, re-wrote it to work better, added more archetypes, and started expanding the quirk and outfits selections to include some new archetype-appropriate options. Right now, the only thing that doesn't work is that... well... when there's a parent-child or grandparent-child NPC pair taking part in the conversation, the child inherits the other NPCs idiolect... but all idiolects, where it should be the case, that only ethnic idiolects are inherited.

In any case, I'm already working to resolve this and will be, in general, moving to extend and re-implement more events over the next week.
