Esoteric Update #264 - A Week That Feels Wasted

This wasn't a very productive week. Nothing that major happened, even though I had a medical situation that I really don't wish to talk much about. It's just that it was one of those weeks where everything I touch seems to just fall apart.

I tried to work on multiple different avenues of coding for the adventure: the doors, the item population system, employing the progress bar to hide heavy operations, etc. I had to restore some of these things from a previous version of the game, as I only managed to damage them without being able to make them do what they should be doing.

Eventually, I settled on doing editing, assets and writing... and even with this I didn't get far with the writing.

So, what did I manage to get done? However little it might be. I finally finished the border extensions module for documents, which is a smaller module providing 9-path borders to HTML elements. There's some stuff there, like being able to define the colour and size of the border we didn't have before, especially notable for the colour since when I initially tried to get this running, we had no way of transforming image colours. That's one thing. Here's a red border, despite the image defining it being black:

I also rewrote the way item regeneration works (that is to say, the mechanism from which item files are generated from templates and data files; there's no item damage in the game, as we decided to generally move away from this concept for QoL reasons). It now uses the loading bar, which means that Windows doesn't have an issue with the engine not responding while it's working. It looks a lot nicer now.

I also edited the novel up to the end of the second book, though I still have HTML encoding to do.

I also fixed some errors, and did at the very least some writing for the locations for the test adventure. But that's about it.

Apart from this I deleted everything I had worked on over the last few days. And I'm sorry, that's not ok of me to do. I'll try to do better next time.

I hope this week will be better for you, but at least you got some work done. Sorry to hear about the stuff you ended up deleting. I hope you manage to get more rest too!
